Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Early Intervention Services

Chanie Messinger, MS, OTR/L, AAPC earned her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from Long Island University. She specializes as a pediatric occupational therapist working with children ages 1-12 years old. Chanie currently has a Mindfulness Certification and is a doctoral student at Thomas Jefferson University. She has a keen interest in mindfulness meditation and the creation of program development for the pediatric, college, and adult populations. Chanie is also an adjunct professor in Brooklyn, NY, and an international and local speaker. She has given presentations on mindfulness meditation, and sensory processing disorders. Chanie will be speaking in Italy on Mindfulness Meditation in April 2019.

Umbereen S. Nehal, MD, MPH is recognized thought leader on value-based care and community health. As Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs of Community Healthcare Network, Dr. Nehal led a multispecialty, multi-site certified Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with 13 clinics, two school-based clinics, a fleet of mobile vans, over 700 staff, and $100 million dollar operating budget. She provided clinical leadership and oversight of quality, safety, utilization management, credentialing, value-based care, population health, community linkages, and research. Educated at Aga Khan University Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Nehal trained at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine followed by the Harvard Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. Twice Dr. Nehal has been named “LinkedIn Top Voice: Healthcare” as well as a “Top Female Voice” on International Women’s Day. Dr. Nehal served as Associate Medical Director of MassHealth -- a Medicaid program serving 1.6 million members and accounting for 40% of the state budget -- providing leadership and expertise on payment reform design and strategy, program development and evaluation, cost effectiveness evaluation, population health initiatives, and guideline development. She was the clinical lead for MassHealth 5-year restructuring under the 1115 waiver to create new Accountable Care Organization (ACO) models. This won $1.8b in new investment to MassHealth from CMS over five years. Further, Dr. Nehal wrote clinical guidelines, advised on payment parameters, and evaluated new therapies. Dr. Nehal has expertise in leading multi-disciplinary teams, stakeholder engagement, and leading change. Dr. Nehal co-authored national curriculum on the Patient-Centered Medical Home, now disseminated to over 8,000 residents. She provided expert review to the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s medical home curriculum. Co-chair of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research advisory panel, she informs national funding priorities. A frequent invited stakeholder to the White House, CMS, HHS, and NIH, she was asked to moderate a panel for U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin. Dr. Nehal’s national leadership on community engagement won recognition from President Obama.
